Privacy Policy

Last updated September 29, 2026

Your ledger lives on your iPhone. Receipt scanning is the only optional feature that sends an image for processing.

What Even Up stores, and where

The people you add, the entries and balances you record, your split bills and their receipt photos, favorites, and any photos, notes or voice notes you attach to an entry are stored on your iPhone. Even Up does not operate an account system or a server that stores your ledger.

If you turn on iCloud Backup inside the app, a copy of that data is saved to your private iCloud account so you can restore it. Apple operates iCloud and applies its own terms and privacy policy.

Receipt scanning

When you choose to scan a receipt, the photo is sent over an encrypted HTTPS connection through our service to Google's Gemini API to extract itemized details.

  • We do not store the photo. Our service holds it only in memory while processing the request, then discards it.
  • The photo is not linked to you. We send no name, email, device ID, or account with it.
  • Google processes the image as our sub-processor on a paid Gemini plan under which Google does not use the image to train or improve its models. Google's terms let it keep requests for a limited time solely to detect and prevent misuse. Google's handling is governed by its API terms.
  • Our service runs on Vercel, which hosts it and keeps standard request logs, including the network address, for a short time under its own terms. The scan counts described below may be kept with Upstash, a database service, for the same one day. Google, Vercel and Upstash handle this data only to provide the service to us, and each provides the same or equal protection of it as this policy describes.
  • To stop abuse, our service counts how many scans come from each network (IP) address. That count is kept for at most a day and is not linked to the photo, to you, or to anything in the app.
  • Scanning is optional. If you never scan a receipt, no receipt image leaves your phone.

Device permissions

  • Camera and Photos. Used to capture or choose a receipt image to scan, or a photo you attach to an entry. If you choose Save Image when sharing a bill, Even Up asks to add that one picture to your photo library; it does not read your library to do so.
  • Contacts. Used only when you choose a contact to fill in a name and phone number. Contact data stays on your phone, and goes into the optional iCloud Backup along with the rest of your data if you turn that on.
  • Microphone. Used only for an optional voice note. Recordings stay on your phone, and go into the optional iCloud Backup along with the rest of your data if you turn that on.
  • Face ID. Used only to unlock the app, if you turn on app lock. Even Up offers it once, the first time you open the app after adding someone, and you can change it any time in Settings → Privacy & security. Apple handles authentication; Even Up only learns whether it succeeded and never receives biometric data.
  • Notifications. Reminders are scheduled and delivered locally by your phone. We do not send push notifications.

Help and feedback

When you report a problem or send an idea from Settings → Help & feedback, Even Up opens your own email app with a message to evenup.support@gmail.com that you send yourself. While the Attach app and device info switch is on, the message also carries the app version and build number, your iOS version, your device model, and how many people, entries, split bills and recurring splits you have. It never carries names or amounts. Any screenshots in the message are ones you attached yourself.

What we do not do

  • No user accounts or sign-in.
  • No advertising, ad networks, or ad identifiers.
  • No analytics, telemetry, crash-reporting, or behavioral tracking SDKs.
  • No selling or sharing of your personal data.

Children

Even Up is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your choices

Because your data lives on your device, you control it. Deleting an entry, person, bill, or recording removes it from the app. Deleting Even Up removes locally stored data. If iCloud Backup is enabled, you can turn it off in the app, then delete the backup itself in the iPhone Settings app under your name, iCloud, and storage.

We hold no copy of your ledger, so there is nothing on our side to delete. If you have a question about your data or want us to confirm this, email evenup.support@gmail.com.

Receipt scanning is optional, and you can turn it off at any time in the app under Settings → Privacy & security, with the switch called Send receipts to be read. With it off, Even Up asks again before it sends anything.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects how your data is handled, we will update the date above and make the revised policy available here.
